Starting Pay: $20.81 – 25.17 per hour, DOE + BENEFITS
Pay Range: $20.81 – 28.45 per hour

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Repairs and maintains City vehicles and equipment. Manages City shop facility under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent and Public Works Director
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the overall status of the repair and preventative maintenance of all types of City vehicles and equipment.
- Must have advanced working knowledge of various mechanical principles as applied to power transmission and braking systems, engine types/cycles, electrical and electronic theory and principles, welding, fabrication, hydraulic theory and principles, shop safety and equipment operation, occupational and environmental hazards.
- Must be able to perform drivability analysis of both gasoline and diesel vehicles and machinery, perform fault determination through systematic troubleshooting of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical system combinations using latest industry test equipment; possess skill in metal repair, fabrication, and reverse engineering of unavailable parts using various forms of metal joining, welding, and powered machine equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the form of either completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship/training program (maximum two years of experience credit), and a minimum of three (3) years of automotive, construction/heavy equipment, and heavy truck or bus repair and maintenance experience; or, demonstrate attainment of compatible journeyman level mechanic skills by having worked at least five (5) years in a related vehicle maintenance field, and the ability to exhibit skills appropriate to this classification. Vocational training as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator preferred. ASE certification preferred.
- Must be able to use hand, power and diagnostic tools to perform workable troubleshooting and repair procedures aimed to returning vehicles to service in minimum time.
