Salary Range:  $32.26 - $43.39/hour. Hiring Range: $32.26 – $33.90.  Excellent benefits package.


General Description:
The Kodiak Island Borough Engineering & Facilities  Department is accepting applications for the regular, fulltime position of Solid Waste Manager/Environmental Specialist.  This is a union position.  This position is directly responsible for the overall management of the Borough Solid Waste Management activities including, planning, organizing, budgeting, administration and implementation of the Kodiak Island Borough Solid Waste Management Plan which includes collection, recycling, source reduction, and disposal of hazardous, asbestos, toxic and infectious waste. Directly responsibility for landfill/baler operations, personnel, and budget. Administers contracts for solid waste services including recycling, collection, and construction. Acts as liaison with federal, state and local agencies regarding EPA, OSHA, DEC and DOT requirements, and assures timely application and compliance with all required regulatory permits.

Qualifications:  
B
achelor’s degree or equivalent training and/or experience in environmental science; civil, sanitary, environmental or geological engineering; solid waste management; public or business administration, or closely related field, and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a closely related field with at least one (1) of those years in a supervisory capacity.
