AML Policy Statement Amendment Procedures
Initial amendments to the AML Policy Statement are made during the Summer Policy Meeting. To promote an effecient meeting, a draft copy of the Policy Statement is mailed to each AML Legislative Committee member prior to the Summer Policy Meeting. Attendees may submit amendments during the Summer Policy Meeting that will be included in the Draft Policy Statement submitted during the AML Annual Local Governemnt Conference in November.
Additional amendments to the AML Policy Statement may be made during the policy section meetings at the Annual Conference. Municipal officials should review with their fellow officials the draft Policy Statement and amendments proposed by the Legislative Committee, which is mailed to each municipality in late September. Proposed amendments should be presented, in writing, during the appropriate policy section meeting during the Annual Conference. Only representatives of AML member municipalities or associations can propose Policy Statement amendments. Amendments approved during policy sections will be considered by the entire membership during the Annual Meeting. Policy statements differ from resolutions in that they express long-term or continuing statements of principles important to local control, local government authority and efficient and effective operation
