Welcome to the
Ketchikan Gateway Borough
Since before statehood, municipalities and the Alaska Municipal League have been delivering services, providing local government structure and creating the great communities we live in today. As we face an uncertain fiscal future in the state of Alaska, cities and boroughs must act as one to continue to be resourceful and work together to ensure Alaska’s successful future. The focus of the conference will be to provide the discussion and skills to help cities and boroughs work with each other and with the state.
The Ketchikan Gateway Borough, The City of Ketchikan and the City of Saxman invite you to attend the 58th Annual Local Government Conference. Preconference events for Associations and Newly Elected Officials begin on Sunday, November 9, 2008. The Conference begins on Wednesday, November 12 at 9:30 a.m.
Training & Networking
AML provides the best training in the state on issues facing municipal leaders. The conference also offers networking opportunities between communities and municipal officials. |

Municipal Policy
An important part of the annual Local Government Conference is to discuss and approve the 2009 AML Policy Statement and Legislative Priorities, adopt Resolutions, and create consensus on key legislative issues. AML members are invited to comment and/or propose amendments to the Policy Statement, Legislative Priorities and Resolutions during the four “policy sections.” The process is completed at the 58th Annual Business Meeting where the entire membership will review and adopt the 2009 documents.
Newly Elected Officials
Building a solid leadership foundation begins with AML’s Newly Elected Officials (NEO) Seminar. It is one of Alaska’s most highly regarded training programs for local leaders. Officials who would like a refresher course and those who are newly elected to office are invited to attend.
The NEO Seminar takes place on Monday & Tuesday, November 10-11, starting at 8:00 a.m. A separate registration fee is required. A $50 discount is offered for NEO participants who wish to attend the Local Government Conference. |
