The Alaska Municipal League is working on behalf of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation to complete sustainable energy planning for the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program. This effort looks to identify policies, programs, and projects (measures) that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while helping Alaska communities achieve benefits like energy cost reductions, quality of life, and energy independence. By working with the CPRG program, AML can help provide easier access to federal funds for the energy needs that Alaska communities have, both in the near and long-term via planning that complements energy project development work being conducted by AML and other partners around the state.
Key Objectives
CPRG planning works with state agencies, tribes, and local governments to look across all emissions sectors (buildings, electric generation, transportation, land use, and industrial) for opportunities to reduce emissions while providing community benefits.
Enhance Energy Security and Sustainability:
Increase the resilience and affordability of energy around Alaska while reducing emissions by bringing resources to a variety of projects and programs.
Identify Energy Workforce Needs and Opportunities:
Via the workforce planning analysis, identify needs in Alaska’s energy workforce and draft policy and programmatic solutions to meet these needs.
Greater Access to Community Energy Data:
With a novel community emissions inventory tool, local agencies will have access to emissions data added ability to quantify potential emissions reduction of planned projects.
