POSITION OVERVIEW
The Code Enforcement Officer is a full-time nonexempt union position in the Community Development Department. The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for the administrative and technical accountability for the enforcement of Borough Code and policies associated with zoning, subdivision, real property, solid waste handling, and health and safety. Enforces conditions of approval and compliance orders, and illegal dumping. Responsible for investigating potential violations, issuing warnings, tickets, and written notices of violation. Works with Borough administration and Borough attorney to bring violations into compliance with Borough Code. Assists builders, developers and the public to understand and comply with code requirements. Conducts investigations, research, analysis, and problem identification to support code enforcement efforts. Works independently with minimal supervision. Will also act as the Kodiak Island Borough Local Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree and four (4) years of land use or law enforcement experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. 10-Hour OSHA Certification; HAZWOPER Certification; must obtain a valid State of Alaska driver’s license upon employment; and FEMA Incident Command System Training desirable.
SALARY
Hiring Range: $68,721 – $74,006 annually; DOQ; Full Salary Range: $68,721 – $92,423 annually*
*Employees are eligible for annual salary increases upon a satisfactory performance evaluation, up to the top of the salary range.

EMPLOYER
The Kodiak Island Borough (KIB) is a regional local government with offices located in the City of Kodiak. KIB is comprised of seven operating departments and an average of 45 employees. The Community Development Department is responsible for four primary functions: administration of the Borough’s zoning and land use regulations, administration of the Borough’s subdivision/platting regulations, short- and long-term planning on both an areawide and non-areawide basis, and the provision of technical expertise and administrative support to Borough boards and committees.
